This show is particularly special because it's the designer's first line back in 20 years! The TONI&GUY team styled mostly men's hair with a very natural look. Since the line had a eco-friend focus, the team's goal was to make the hair look very organic and natural. Take a look!

Blog Post: TONI&GUY STYLES MISS CALIFORNIA

In the sunny OC city of Newport Beach, TONI&GUY’s Lexi Hopper and Olivia Rice teamed up to style a photo shoot in Newport Beach for Exotic Adventure & Travel Magazine featuring Miss California Katie Blair. With Hopper on hair and Rice on make-up, the duo worked closely with photographer Randy Wong to produce a spy themed photo spread. It was sexy and nothing short of vintage Bond girl. “This James-Bond inspired, exploding-with-action yet ultimately glamorous editorial shoot was one of the best times I’ve had! I loved every minute of it and can’t wait to see all of our work in print!,” said Rice.

On Location in Newport Beach

As an Art Director and educator at the Costa Mesa Academy, Hopper, 24, was thrilled to be a part of such a high-energy photo shoot that allowed her to step up her styling creativity in every scene. “I really felt all our visions came together to create a set of beautiful images! It’s extremely rewarding when you see the end result!”
What do you enjoy most about being a stylist?
Hopper: I love being a stylist. It comes back to the saying “Look good, feel good.” I feel fortunate that my career involves being creative while helping people feel good about themselves. Being in Newport has given me opportunities like this that have really enhanced my creativity.

What do you enjoy most about being a make-up artist?

Rice: When I am in my zone and blending shadow, applying color, etc, I feel peace, complete freedom. As with any kind of “artist,” the one thing we share is passion for creating. The mediums are different, but what we all have in common is the never-ending drive to make the world a more beautiful place. I feel blessed that my “art” also makes people feel great about themselves.

What products do you love to have in your kit?

Hopper: I love the new Catwalk Session Series products from TIGI. Truly made for “on-location.” The Salt Spray and the Work It Hairspray are epic! Salt Spray for textured styles. The Work It Hairspray is truly my fav because I can keep layering it and it stays pliable. I also love True Wax for polishing, since as we know in photo shoots, lights show every little hair.

Rice: Model in a Bottle is a setting spray that I use on every client. It’s miraculous and saves so much time for everyone. Once the makeup is set with this neither me or my client has to worry about touch-ups, well maybe lipstick and gloss, but consider it done after I’ve sprayed you with this magic potion!

What advice would you have for an artist who is interested in doing session work?

Hopper: My advice for session work is to be confident. Own your work. It also really helps to do a little homework. Look up the photographers and wardrobe style. It really prepares you. Also if you can check out the models hair in advance do it. It can really help prep you for the shoot.

Rice: Confidence and Professionalism are KEY! You are a talented artist and whatever job you are on you are there for a reason, and you belong there, in that moment. Make the most of every situation- each experience will teach you something new as well as act as that stepping stone to your next adventure! Also, communication is huge, talk to the Art Director about their vision, the hair stylist about what the looks are and the Photographer about the lighting. Not only does this help you develop the perfect makeup concept, in the end it shows you are a team player, a True Professional that is dedicated to a perfectly finished product.

What did you enjoy most about this shoot?

Hopper: I loved working with Katie. She is beautiful inside and out! This shoot was really fun. It told a story of a secret spy. The location was beautiful.

Rice: Working with great people makes all the difference and this day was full of fantastic ones. Miss California, Katie, was so cool and fun to be around, a blonde and bubbly RAD chic! From the talented photographers, the Execs from Exotic Travel and Leisure Magazine, and of course my extremely gifted TONI&GUY team member Lexi Hopper Styling Hair- it was the best team I could ask for!

Blog Post: No Stresses Just Smooth Tresses

Looking for a pampering blow out experience? My brother Anthony and I soon joined the family business and we have been focused on upgrading the hairdressing industry as a whole every day since.

In 1985, Guy and I brought TONI&GUY to the US. We found a new home in Dallas and have based all US firsts in Texas. We like to say we were founded in London, but perfected in Dallas. It was at this time that I also started TIGI and spread the TONI&GUY message of quality hair care and education globally.

With the sale of TIGI to Unilever in 2009, we had an amazing opportunity in front of us. We could now focus all our energy on our Salons and Academies. We have always worked at being an authentic company that creates techniques that are priceless to the hairdressers and styles that are wearable for the client. So it has been a joy getting to completely dive into what our foundation has always been.

Currently we have TONI&GUY Salons and Academies in over 20 states nationwide and we plan to open several more salons and academies this year. With a keen focus on company culture, education and efficiency you are sure to see thoughtful and increased growth of TONI&GUY Salons and Academies nationwide.

A huge thank you to all of our clients, students, educators and team members without you none of this success would be possible!

Look for my upcoming video blog coming soon.

-Bruno

Blog Post: Grand Opening of Plano Preston Park Salon

This May, TONI&GUY Preston Park Village Salon celebrated their Grand Opening!
The event kicked off with a ribbon cutting from the Plano Chamber of Commerce and guests enjoyed food, drink and complimentary blowouts in celebration of the new space.
