Congratulations to Jasmine Chang, the student winner representing the Santa Monica Academy!
TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy student stylists stand alone among their peers throughout the industry with their passion, tenacity and dedication to honing their skills and gleaning the skills from their training to continue to be set apart as TONI&GUY stylists for their entire careers. The student finalists for the 2010 Photographic Awards included Destiny Northcott (Dallas Academy), Jasmine Chang (Santa Monica Academy), Jennifer Page (Dallas Academy), Kayla Ward (Cour d'Alene) and Sophia Kalsatos (Cumberland).
After receiving a kiss on the cheek from Zak Mascolo and a gold trophy, Chang hefted the trophy above her head and shouted, "All right Santa Monica!"
"I'm so thankful to be a part of all of this great energy," Chang said.
Chang wasn't the only student finalist to gush with energy during the awards.
“I love, love, love TONI&GUY,” said Destiny Northcott, an August graduate of the Dallas Academy.
Northcott submitted fantasy and color pieces and earned her place as a finalist in the student category. She is choosing to focus on colour because of its ever-changing nature – it looks different on every client. Northcott said her inspiration came from the TONI&GUY “Ricochet” collection, channeling an edgier street style. A part of TONI&GUY education Northcott said she highly respects is the company’s stance on individuality, as shown in the photographic awards.
“They let you be who you want to be,” Northcott said. “If you want to be classic, you can be. If you want to be edgy, to can be that, too.”
In her strong-shouldered teal dress and spiked hair style, the 21-year-old looked every bit as confident as she claimed her education made her.
“It’s like I’ve been doing hair for years and I’ve really only been doing it for 10 months,” Northcutt said of her foray into professional hairdressing.
Shnelle Northcott, Destiny’s mother, said she most appreciated the discipline those 10 months of training instilled in her daughter.
“She’s always been good at hair,” Shnelle Northcott said. “She’s really talented and they gave her the tools to pair with her talent.
“You have got to really want to do hair to go to TONI&GUY,” she added.
Congratulations to all of the student finalists!
