As temperatures cool down, Toledo-area women are wondering: what fashions are heating up?

This September, three Toledo-area fashion-focused businesses plan to paint the aesthetic displays at a local art gallery in a fashionable light. TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy, Juni Boutique and Mary Kay cosmetics plan to host the first-ever Metro Chic Fashion Fete from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 at J&J Studio and Gallery, 909 Jefferson St.

The event will include the upcoming fall fashion looks as interpreted by local fashionistas, including hairstyles by TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy, makeup by Mary Kay consultants and clothing by Juni Boutique. Replacing the art on the walls with living, breathing art in the form of live models, patrons can get a glimpse at upcoming popular colour combinations for makeup and clothing, as well as new hair cut, colour and styling trends.

The event will include a raffle for prizes such as gift certificates and baskets of skin care, makeup and hair products, the grand prize of Gettin' Glam makeovers for three winners, plus two friends each, to have their hair styled and make up done on Sept. 25 before they head to the Toledo Chamber of Commerce EPIC Rocks Fashion show, scheduled to take place at Toledo Express Airport.

“So many people and organizations are working to rekindle the focus on culture and art and creativity here in Toledo,” said Kristin Reichardt, TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy recruiting director. “This three local fashion-focused businesses can get involved and contribute insight and passion to the great work already being done by organizations such as the Toledo Chamber of Commerce, EPIC and the Toledo Arts Commission.

“J&J Gallery is a fantastic space with a perfect art collection to showcase – fall fashion,” she said. “Milan or New York City may be fashion epicenters, but we have the same passion here in Toledo.”

TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy opened a Toledo location in January 2009, and focuses on teaching students to think, act and plan like business owners while completing their training. Their graduates not only have the benefit of a world-known education system built on innovation and technical excellence, but also have an understanding of the demands that come with working in the professional realm of entrepreneurship.

Located at 3034 Wilford Drive, Toledo, the TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy draws on the qualities that have created an internationally successful business for more than 40 years and continues to elevate the hairdressing industry through education.

Nicole Lloyd, independent sales director for Mary Kay, began operating her own business in September 2001 as a 21-year-old college student enrolled at Bowling Green State University. Lloyd thrives in her business because she loves helping women to achieve their full potential. She sees the Metro Chic Fall Fete as another way for fashion-minded businesses to join the efforts to bring art and beauty to the downtown Toledo area.

Lisa Rozanski is the owner of the new Juni Boutique in downtown Sylvania.  Rozanski opened the boutique this June because she wanted to provide a great shopping experience for women with great customer service and affordable prices.  Most of her lines are from New York City, LA, and Paris, and will introduce haute clothing at cool prices.

This free event will offer a great way to check out various new hairstyles, make up colours and clothing styles that are sure to make you pop this fall!
