Blog Post: A Wonderful Story for the New Year.

There are so many reasons to be thankful for this last year. I personally am so thankful that I have the honor of working for TONI&GUY. What an amazing place to be everyday whether you are a student or staff. This story that I am going to share with everyone pretty much "sums it up" on why we love living in Coeur d'Alene and being a part of TONI&GUY.

WE LOVE CDA

Just saw a great testimonial for the Beauty College here in Coeur d'Alene and for one of the students Crystal. The backgroung to the story is : A woman who is a *** cancer survivor and going through treatment finally decided to shave her head after trying to cut the sparse patches she currently had and not doing a great job.

Now the emotions it takes to decide to shave your head must be intense beyond all belief, but to then be treated the way she did at the first salon is atrocious.

The first salon told her it would cost $14 and when she was amazed at the cost, the gal had the nerve to say "Well, don't expect me to do anything special for you." She of coarse said thank you, but no, and left.

She then went to the Beauty College where not only did Crystal make sure she was treated with the utmost of care, but the College when she went to pay the $8 charge, told her it was on the house.

Now THAT is "Customer" service!

It seems like for the longest time our school here in Coeur d'Alene was a "girls only" institution. Not any more, we are so happy to have four amazing guys who are now attending the Academy and we are looking for more! Having a mix of Men and Women help make the dynamic of TONI&GUY even more awesome!!! "Hairdressing" was historically a Man's profession and over the years became a female dominated one. Men and Women are both creative beings and just like the Women of today can be Firefighters, Men can be Hairdressers and very successful one's as well. So to all you Guys out there who have always wanted to do hair, stop waiting, and GO FOR IT!!

Blog Post: TONI&GUY Coeur d'Alene "Rocks Hard at the Park"

When you think of TONI&GUY you think Rock and Roll!!! The Coeur d'Alene Academy was one of the sponsers at our anual Rock Hard at the Park. This years bands were definatly Rock and Roll. Five Finger Death Punch and Korn were the main bands that night and I have to say that they seriously ROCKED it! Being a part of TONI&GUY means not only that you get the most amazing Hairdressing education but you also get to be a part of really cool stuff like this as well! The Academy started out the day with having a Rock Star competition and then it was off to set up our booth where we got to see all the bands setting up and doing sound checks ( my ears are still ringing, but worth it.) Coeur d'Alene is all a "BUZZ" with the changes made to our amazing staff! Our new Director of Education Sandra McGee is proving to be a "breath of fresh air" says one of our students, Kacie Wenstrom. Sandra has been in the Hairdressing industry for 30yrs, two of which she has spent with us at the Academy being an instructor. Sandra says she LOVES TONI&GUY, she has been "plugged into" the TONI&GUY education system since their US launch. Sandra is "super excited to provide the TONI&GUY education in a fun and inspiring way." The students and staff couldn't agree more. Student Ashley Cox said, "Sandra is amazing and she couldn't be happier that Sandra is our new Director of Education, she makes it fun to be here." Student Char Smith said " Best choice, hands down for the position." Instructor Shanna Lee said, " Sandra is very inspirational, she brings fresh ideas to keep the students motivated and we LOVE her." Instructor Char Wicks said, " Sandra is doing a great job" and Char feels very comfortable with Sandra in her new position, Char should know being as she has been with the school for over 20yrs, truly an icon in the industry!

All of us here at the Coeur d'Alene Academy are very excited and happy for Sandra, we know she will do us proud!!

Was it worth the wait? ABSOLUTELY!!

Last night the Coeur d'Alene TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy had our official Grand Opening. All of our art was on the walls and it was lights, camera, action. We feel so lucky to have such a beautiful school in our little town and even luckier to have all of our amazing staff, faculty, and of coarse our students. Coeur d'Alene would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who made this possible from our awesome Maintenance people all the way up to Phil Scott our CEO. So finally, here is the finished and beautiful TONI&GUY Coeur d'Alene!

Coeur d'Alene is Finally in our new facility and we are so excited for our Grand Opening. The students have never been more excited, getting ready for the Soiree' and the Grand Opening. It has been really busy around here and the energy is infectious. Please join us on April 4th 2011 from 6-9pm for the official opening of The TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy Coeur d'Alene.

We have always said that "it is not the building, but the education that matters." This is very true but it is hard to deny how much our students have bloomed since moving. The best comment was " I am so proud that I go to school here" I can't count how many times we heard this the first couple of weeks. The whole community has been a "buzz" since we moved in, the doors have not stopped swinging. Last Saturday we had a record number of clients, a whopping 115!! We would also like to invite everyone to come in and just walk around or have a tour of our AMAZING new school, anyone here would be happy to show you around. Last but not least for today, I am going to have to build the suspense by not posting pics until after the Grand Opening ( There are a few in the media gallery to hold you for now.)

I wonder if the construction workers find it funny that I am just walking around taking pictures of them working but I can't help it, it is so exciting. I know I am probably kind of like a stalker but how else can I get the pictures and information for all of you who are sitting on the edge of your seats like us! Sometimes it seems like there is always some kind of event, charity or otherwise, going on here at the Coeur d'Alene Academy. Our students are always so anxious and willing to help where needed. This was no exception when they had the chance to do the hair for the Coeur d'Alene Violence Prevention Center Fashion Show on Saturday November 6th. We had more volunteers than we needed ( like usual) and they did an amazing job. Being part of TONI&GUY is always more than just beauty on the outside, it's beauty on the inside as well. Everyday our students and staff amaze and astound us with their giving, loving, and sharing attitudes.

Ok Ladies and Gentlemen.... We have Walls!!!! This may not seem like a big deal to most but to us here at the Coeur d'Alene Academy it is like being a kid on Christmas morning. Walking into the new school construction zone is like seeing into the future. You can see yourself sitting at your desk, walking the floor, and watching the students hustling and bustling around doing what they love. Is it true that "It is not the destination but the journey"? Well, for all of us at the Coeur d' Alene Academy that saying couldn't be more true. We feel so fortunate to be getting a state of the art 15,000 square ft brand new building but I do have to say that it's our insides that count. The team we have built, the amazing students we have, and the education that TONI&GUY has provided to us is worth their weight in gold. We are ready to embark on our new chapter with everything important in place, we are so grateful for our journey and MORE than ready for our destination! Blog Post: Coeur d'Alene Students Rock the Haute Hair Show

One of the most exciting things a Hairdresser can do is compete in a Hair Show. On Sunday October 10th the Coeur d'Alene students did just that. The students prepared for two weeks prior to the show, staying after school everyday to practice, and taking in the knowledge of our amazing Instructor and Hair Show veteran Charlene Wicks. Char helped the students to learn the "tricks" of competing in a Hair Show and guided them toward ultimate success. Our amazing students managed to bring home 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in make-up, 1st in women's haircutting, and 2nd in glamour! If that is not enough, they also brought home the coveted Traveling Trophy thanks to student Shannon Burmeister who placed in all three of those catergories. All we can say is WOW! Go TONI&GUY Coeur d'Alene we are so proud of all of you who competed and worked so hard for this.

Blog Post: "Spot on" Student of the month.

This week, the spotlight is on Ashley Sampson, a student in the September 2009 class!

Ashley Sampson comes from Granada Hills, Ca. and is a 2008 graduate of Lake City High School. The 20 -year old is the Daughter of Tom and Gina Sampson. Beginning her career in cosmetology excites Sampson because of all the opportunities to continuously learn new things and being able to do what she loves and make people happy. She can do this during her time at TONI&GUY.

" I love being able to be a part of the best hairdressing Academy," Sampson said, adding that she loves learning from the best instructors and living up to the classy and professional TONI&GUY reputation.

She enjoys dancing, spending time with friends and family, and anything that has to do with Fashion. Sampson loves big hair and make-up, she is known around the Academy as "The Back Combing Queen." Growing up, she wanted to be a Hairdresser or Fashion Designer.

"Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring," Sampson says. Who better to quote than Marilyn Monroe.

Look for Ashley Sampson's work in whichever salon decides to hire this talented student. Sampson is scheduled to graduate The TONI&GUY Academy in September 2010.
